BUSINESS in Calderdale is setting the agenda when it comes to environmental issues.
Nominations for the Evening Courier Environmental Business of the Year Award proved that companies are not only happy to prove they are recycling but are setting an agenda others within their industry must aspire to.
Judges were impressed at the wide range of nominees from small to medium enterprise (SMEs) through to major international companies vying with each other to prove their green credentials.
Jeremy Garside, managing partner at Chadwick Lawrence, lead sponsor of the Evening Courier Awards, said he was delighted that so many companies across Calderdale realised that protecting the environment was not just about acknowledging their impact but also recognising and acting upon any negative effects.
"There are companies within Calderdale who have grown strong and taken their products to the international arena," said Mr Garside.
"They recognise that in doing so they have impacted on the environment but want to reduce their carbon footprint.
"While being zero carbon is not easy to achieve they are going beyond what is necessary to hit their self imposed criteria," he said.
The three nominees in this category amply reflect the criteria of the Environmental Award.
