COURIER writer Colin Drury has won the Columnist of the Year Award at the 2008 Press Gazette Regional Press Awards.
The 25-year-old from Huddersfield collected the prestigious gong on Friday night.
Colin joined the Courier 16 months ago from the Barnsley Chronicle and began his witty weekly Friday column soon after.
He was presented with a glass trophy by radio presenter Nick Ferrari in front of an audience of 200 people at a glitzy ceremony at the Lancaster Gate Hotel, London. He beat competition from around 50 entrants to make the shortlist, which pitted him against six other journalists from across the UK.
Courier editor John Furbisher said: "Colin has the knack of championing the views of younger readers in a way that the older generation – like me – can understand and sympathise with. He makes serious points, but with humour and great style. I'm very proud of his success."
