CCTV would save council money
Hollin Lane Ripponden
I write in response to a couple of articles published on Tuesday June 9.
The first, "Keep Watch on our Village" states that while Calderdale Council is sympathetic to the plight of Ripponden and its rising anti- social behaviour problems they state there is not enough cash to meet the parish council's request for CCTV in the most troublesome areas.
As usual their budget just goes round in circles. Have you given a thought Calderdale to the fact that when you continue to receive reports of graffiti, our bus shelter smashed and dangerous, unsafe rubbish etc. you have a duty of care to remove and replace?
How much a year do you spend on this when the CCTV cameras you can't afford would pretty well obviate the problem?
On the same day an article was published: "Step forward or lose some of the 235,000 offered".
We are a hardworking bunch of volunteers who won a gold award last year in Yorkshire in Bloom, but as we don't have a turnover of 20,000-250,000, sadly we can't apply for this Community Foundation grant.
