End the bickering and back FC Halifax Town

Stoodley Terrace, Halifax

In response to "Fans deserve better" (Your say, September 15) I feel that while many of Gavin Butler's comments were valid, we should learn from our past mistakes and move forward.

FC Halifax Town have done just that. We have had to start afresh and apart from the venue and some selected staff everything else is new.

The new board of directors have, for a considerable time, covered costs they have not been obliged to do to ensure the club had a lifeline.

Unfortunately, even they were unaware of certain aspects that hindered and meant the eventual downfall of Halifax Town AFC.

It should be pointed out the new directors have not gone to the fans with a begging bowl but continually used their own funds. I have been a fan for over 20 years and this is one of the few times we have started a season without a request for funds.

These directors, while shying away from the fans initially while the takeover was being negotiated, quite rightly, as successful businessmen, ensured they had the correct information before making any decisions and this meant crossing the "t"s and dotting the "i"s. Is this so wrong, bearing in mind the past directors' actions which, as Gavin quite rightly states, were not transparent?

As a member of the trust, I, like many others, appreciate the frustration of not knowing what was going on and why the simplest of actions seem not to take place. There have been occasions when the response from past directors has been less than transparent. But we should not tar the directors of FC Halifax Town with the same brush.

It's about time the bickering stopped and everyone appreciated we have a club that we can support and while Gavin Butler is representing only around 200 members of the supporters' trust, it should be said there are 1,000 or more fans attending the Shay and who want to move this club forward and not live in the past.
