Halifax Borough Market repairs must be planned
Heath Park Avenue Halifax
I am pleased to see the Conservative council leadership has decided to find the money for urgent repairs to the chimneys at Halifax Borough Market.
But I am concerned that we have reached a situation where major work like this has to be done as an emergency, rather than as part of a planned programme to maintain and improve the market buildings.
It seems to me that our wonderful Victorian market hall has been somewhat ignored among all the other plans and ideas for Halifax town centre.
My colleague, Coun Barry Collins, has been pushing for a proper condition survey on the market for over a year; surely it is time for the council, Yorkshire Forward and others to come up with a long-term plan to invest in this unique asset to our town?
