How can hunters justify hare coursing?
PO Box 239, Manchester I READ the letter headlined "Hunting: how can they defend it?" (Your say, January 26).
The Burns Report stated that "fox hunting seriously compromises the welfare of the fox". The report also destroyed the lie that a fox is "always killed with a quick nip to the back of the neck".
As for hare hunting and coursing, the report found they "are essentially carried out for recreational purposes" and have little effect on population.
I would love anyone from the hunting community to give me just one reason why they hunt hares on the moors around Holmfirth.
What harm is the hare doing? What justification do they also have for hare coursing?
Why does the hunting fraternity always focus on fox hunting? Where are all their excuses for beagling, hare coursing and stag hunting? All of these were banned under the Hunting Act 2005.
