It's not good enough Linda

Lilac Street, Lee Mount, Halifax. I JUST had to write after reading about MP Linda Riordan's latest project in the House of Commons to ban the five regiments of guards from wearing bearskins ("Bearskin ban bid", Courier, August 18).

When we last had an election, I believed I was voting for someone who would fight for investment in our town and more resources for the police and our over-stretched health service.

I believed we would have someone who would fight tooth and nail to help make Halifax a better place to live and fight to alleviate some of the poverty in our great town.

I thought we might have someone who would bring jobs to our town and ensure we grow in stature and wealth.

So, what have we got?

l A very important vote against bears being shot and ending up on the heads of our gallant men and women in the guards regiments.

l A ID card for under-18s who are more than sensible enough to not fall down drunk every night and a stern letter to First bus.

l A vote against tail docking on working dogs that thankfully MPs had sense to overturn.

I am so glad my vote has not gone to waste and come next election I might be rash and waste my vote on someone who just wants to do something for this town of ours.
