Lost links with Musoma

Towngate Northowram Halifax

MY partner and I read with great interest the article "Life-changing experience for Rotarians in Africa" in the Courier, November 9, and noted the group had been to some unidentified place on Lake Victoria in Tanzania.

We also saw there was a note at the end of the article and wondered if the place would be named in the Comment on page 12 but failed to find any comment referring to the article.

The article made us think of many life-changing experiences we have had in Tanzania, in the township of Musoma on Lake Victoria and I wondered how many of your readers remember that Calderdale is officially twinned with Musoma.

We also became involved with Tanzania through Rotary International when Sowerby Bridge Rotary Club raised money to buy a cess pit emptying tanker for Musoma. We have since independently supported various projects in the town and are at the present trying to help the Lake Victoria Disability Centre.

We feel sad that our town council has completely abandoned any of the links it signed up for on March 9, 1996, when Graham Reason was mayor.

However, if any of your readers would like to know anything about our Tanzanian link or would be interested in visiting the area, I would be very happy to talk to them and we are hoping to arrange another visit to Musoma next spring.

Wendy Longbottom and David Whitworth

Sorry for the misleading cross-reference. I understand the Rotarians visited the town of Mwanza. Editor
