Pro-hunters' appalling behaviour

Church End, Haddenham, Bucks.

C. J. Horsman ("Find out the truth about hunting", Your say, February 8) describes my reply to his earlier letter as "vitriolic claptrap". I imagine that he will view this similarly.

He writes that "gesticulating, abuse-screaming, rent-a-mob thugs are not acceptable but seem part and parcel of the anti-hunt movement, as do criminal trespass and damage".

I have been peaceably monitoring hunts for 14 years, from the roadside. Now past retirement age, I have recorded much which his description would fit since the ban became law.

But it is of those who are conniving with the illegal hunting that I and my colleagues repeatedly see as they attempt to hide it from our camcorders.

And I do, of course, "condemn this sort of behaviour", and if my "cronies" had ever behaved like that I wouldn't monitor with them.

Every season since the ban we have been subjected to such appalling behaviour that police have cautioned hunt followers many times. At this very moment, one is on police bail.

Yet we have never even been spoken to by the police, despite the hunt followers using camcorders which would provide confirmation of Mr Horsman's claims if they were true.

Our footage provides real evidence to back up our statements, as did my quotation from the Burns Report.

If only the pro-hunters could say the same for their wild allegations.
