Residents' meeting just a ploy

St James Court,Halifax A SHORT while ago the residents of St James Court where invited to attend a special meeting of the Residents Association to be introduced to a representative of Calderdale Council who would advise us on energy efficiency.

This turned into a cynical ploy to introduce a representative from a multi-level marketing company hoping to persuade us to change our gas, electrical and telephone suppliers and to introduce our family and friends.

The last time I attended a meeting of this type, it was in Portugal and the reason was to try and get me to sign up for a holiday club.

If Pennine are serious about helping to cut our energy bills, it could start by using some of the 170,000 or more we will pay in rents and services this year on replacing the state of the ark boilers and thermostats and repairing the windows and doors that let in so much draught, not by behaving like timeshare touts.
