Thugs who want to kill hunting

Heatherdale, Wheatley, Halifax

May I reply to the letter by Paul Timpson, of the Hunt Saboteurs' Association, headlined "How can hunters justify hare coursing?" (Your say, February 7)?

"Sabbing" is an illegal activity carried out by mindless thugs in balaclavas and the demise of hunts and their supporters is their aim.

Animal welfare is not their prime goal as they use chemical sprays in hounds' faces and attack horses.

Digging up dead bodies and not returning them to the family is the sort of thing they do.

Recently "sabs" beat up an elderly woman for beating on a shoot.

In reply to his question on hunting hares, hunting helped keep them in check and kept the population healthy. For the record, no hares are hunted by hunts and coursing is illegal.

I have never been to a stag hunt or a coursing event but, to put coursing into perspective, the hare won hands down eight times out of ten.
