What a boost to Illingworth and Ovenden it would be if Morrisons was finally to go ahead and build a new store.
In outline plans submitted by the company, the existing building, which has been on its Keighley Road site for 37 years, would be demolished and a new store put in its place.
It would be at least half as big again and feature everything you would expect from a modern supermarket.
While it has served its purpose well, it might be hard to find anyone with a good word to say about the current look of the building. It is tired and dated, to put it mildly.
Of more importance, however, would be the economic and employment implications for an area considered one of Calderdale's most run- down and least wealthy.
Morrisons currently employs 150 people at the site. A new building would provide jobs for a further 220.
This would represent a significant boost to the employment market at a time when many people are feeling the pinch and might relish working closer to home.
Above all though, Morrisons' commitment to a new supermarket sends out positive signals to the rest of the business community.
The knock-on effect could, in time, be of huge benefit to the locality.
