FIVE-a-day has become a watch-phrase for healthy living.
But getting young people, especially students, to consume a daily diet of fruit and vegetables is not as easy as it sounds. Given the choice, they would likely as not go for fast food. Except, that is, if they are responsible for growing the produce in the first place.

When young people feel engaged, there often appears a marked change in attitude.

A group with the jolly title Incredible Edible Todmorden hopes to capture the imagination of pupils at the town's high school.

They have built a polytunnel and hope to encourage students to grow vegetables which in turn will be served at mealtimes. What a worthwhile project this is. It ticks a raft of health and educational boxes and, with a little luck, might persuade children that vegetables can be every bit as delicious as say, burgers, pizzas and chips.
