Fingers crossed over home survey

JUST 10 years ago Calderdale had the dubious reputation of having some of the worst housing in the country.
Not council housing. Private houses.
Nearly 5,000 of them failing to pass a basic Government fitness test.
This was not only unacceptable but an embarrassment on a national scale.
Since then Calderdale Council has worked hard using grants and renovation contracts to make improvements to 8,500 homes.
This has included anything from structural work to making properties watertight.
Now a detailed survey is under way to assess the situation across Calderdale and determine how much progress has been made.
A Huddersfield firm will carry out a 30 minute survey of 1,500 randomly selected private homes.
All will no doubt be revealed when the results are published.
When one hopes Calderdale will not be named and shamed again for the state of its dwellings.
Having said that, who who would have thought that would have been the outcome a decade ago?
