Everybody loves a winning team – no matter what level, no matter what sport.
Today a reborn FC Halifax Town begins arguably the most important season of its short life.
The old club is gone, the new one begins three divisions below the Conference, where they are favourites to win the title.
New manager Jim Vince has pulled together an experienced and exciting outfit that has performed better with each friendly game.
Expectations are high. It is always like that at the start of a new season.
But those who proudly wear the blue and white of Halifax know painfully well that nothing is guaranteed.
It was, after all, just a few short months ago that the team looked to have scrambled to safety. That this season they would once again mount a campaign to get back into the football league. What happened then is etched on everyone's mind.
The passion for Halifax to do well will not diminish even though this is Unibond League Division One North.
The club has never been the best supported. You have to go back to the seventies and the era of George Kirby for consistently high crowds.
But the opportunity is now there for the club to impress old fans and win new ones.
The greater their success the bigger the crowds they will enjoy.
Everybody loves a winning team.
