The closure of a hospital ward due to a sickness bug is a real worry. It means a virus is attacking people who are there because they are already ill and therefore extra vulnerable.
Anyone who has relatives in Calderdale Royal Hospital at this time will hope that the staff there can quickly contain this outbreak.
Guidelines have been issued to members of the public to explain how they can help.
The wider problem is how common and how devastating these infections are in hospitals across the country. The superbug has become a real menace and before we can solve it, we have to ask why.

We must hope that the steps being taken at Calderdale Royal are sufficient to make the hospital a safe place to go and get well.
