It's backs against the wall for Halifax Town
These are anxious times for Halifax Town.
Only a matter of weeks ago a consortium was running the club, the team was winning and Calderdale Council agreed a plan to complete the east stand of the Shay.
Everything in the garden looked rosy.
Today the club is in administration with debts of £1.1 million. As a result, a 10 points deduction leaves them teetering above the relegation zone by goal difference. The team has suffered three damaging defeats in a row and crowds have slipped below 1,000.
Yesterday, unavoidably, administrators Begbies Traynor advertised the club for sale in the Financial Times.
Chris Wilder and Peter Atherton are now broadsides with some of the fans, an injury crisis has deprived the team of its preferred strikeforce and there are just nine games to halt a slide into part-time footballing oblivion.
Halifax Town is in its hour of need like never before.
It needs heroes both on and off the pitch and for everyone to band together. Then all may still be well.
For the consequences of relegation are too painful to contemplate.
