Old-fashioned policing success

A clampdown on under age boozing in the upper Calder Valley is achieving greater success than might have been imagined.
The efforts of the neighbourhood police team responsible has undoubtedly helped reduce the numbers of young people drinking in parks and other public places.
Whose rowdy and anti-social behaviour make these open spaces that are for everyone to enjoy, no-go areas for decent people.
Only last month the Courier showed the mountain of bottles and cans seized from people who were not old enough to drink.
Now the team's field intelligence has brought about the arrests of four young men from outside the area on suspicion of committing vehicle crime. They were stopped in Luddenden Foot in the early hours.
Hardly earth-shattering but a first-class example of good, old-fashioned policing.
Of course, these men may be innocent. Only time and further inquiries will decide that.
But it does show what can be achieved when a protective ring is put around our communities. Makes you feel safer in your bed at night.
