Ask for a black sheep or pork scratchings at the Stirk Bridge Inn and you are certain to get a dirty look.
Not from the customers. Rather its residents.

That is the sheep and pigs that regularly nose their way into the public bar.

Diane Hall and Odette Cisinzky took over the pub eight weeks ago and have brought with them a menagerie as a special attraction.

"Our pigs Dolce and Gabbana come in to the pub for biscuits. The sheep come up to the children and let them stroke them. People cannot stop laughing. It is great fun," say the owners.

And that is good. Because there is not a lot to laugh about in the trade these days.

Where a cocktail of Government taxation on drinks and high rents are forcing an alarming number of landlords to call time on their businesses.

On top of that, having been forced to combat cheap booze in supermarkets to stay in business, the pub industry now finds itself, in part at least, carrying the can for the country's alleged "binge drinking" culture.

Pubs need to be clever to keep their clientele and profit margins.
Which is why these two women should be applauded.

Their idea of fun might not be everyone's half of lager but it is a real talking point.

Not least the giant sized rabbit.

Even though its appearance has had many a customer wondering just how much they have had to drink.
