CRIME and anti-social behaviour are all too prevalent in what people have christened "Broken Britain".
Left to fester these ills of society are responsible for bringing areas and their communities to their knees.

Unchecked, there is little businesses and residents can do but up sticks and move elsewhere.

The stance about to be adopted in the Highroad Well area, which has had more than its fair share of trouble, is an example of what can be done when the law abiding majority says "enough is enough ".
In this case the worm is about to turn.

Throughout the summer this area of Halifax has been plagued with burglaries, intimidation and vandalism by teenage thugs. What's more, with every offence they have apparently become bolder and increasingly arrogant.

The trouble has become so widespread, few homes have been left untouched.

At this juncture it would be easy for locals to turn their backs and walk away, as has happened in other parts of the country. After all who wants to lead their lives feeling unsafe on the street and under threat, even in their own home?

The alternative, and this is what has happened here, is to fight back.
Led by a former independent councillor, an alliance of shop workers, residents and community leaders hopes to form what will be one of the largest neighbourhood watch groups in Calderdale.

It is understandable that individuals are reluctant to take action for fear of reprisals.

However, with the weight of such a group behind them, people will feel far more comfortable coming forward and reporting incidents.
The police are fully behind this, though some might claim it is their inability to stamp authority in the area that has led to this situation in their first place.

None of which really matters, however, so long as the same end result is achieved.

An outcome which would help people once again go freely about their business with the comforting thought they, their property and their possessions are safe and sound.

Interesting?
But why matters have been allowed to descend into this deplorable state is easy to see. A Police Force reduced to an army of paper pushers, and when they are permitted to venture upon our streets they are uneffective - hindered by the swarms of quangos and do good brigades!
What have these really acheived, look around you and see their less than worthy successes. The nation is descending into total anarchy at an ever decreasing rate, with The Courts being urged to back off and step back from despensing true and deserved punishment.
How many authority departments have we now that buzz around like flies after being dosed with fly killer, so anxious to pussyfoot through the appalling lack of discipline which rules our lives.
Teachers that dare not make any remonstration against the unruly louts they are obliged to call pupils, even worse are their parents, instilled with their book of rights derived from God knows where?
Rights are granted surely where rights are recognised in return?
If you behave like a yob, a misfit, then what rights should you be permitted - an eye for an eye is the foundation we should be maintaining, and quite regardless of all other considerations. The Courts may act in the knowledge that the cells are full, so what! Prison was never intended to be it's present highly desirable habitat and, should we care about their discomfort? What do they care about ours having suffered their attitude and actions?
Wake up the parents and all those whom believe that we can continue as a society to sustain this situation.
Get the Police on the streets, and on the roads to catch the 1.4 million uninsured drivers and the like. That sum itself would pay for a few more in blue uniforms.
Hell, when people are afraid to go about their everyday lives, then we really are in a quite obnoxious state. By kind permission of our nimby selves?

"Justice must not only be done but seen to be done" how many people have walked free because the police have not kept proper records or notes?
How much longer have we to suffer calls for police to stop doing their jobs? and on the other side how many miscarriages of justice?
It took a single shift to brainwash Craig Whitaker Conservative Candidate for the Calder Valley, or am I wrong? was the press release typed and ready before he went?
as we get to the dying age of the most right wing government in history there are still calls to go even more to the right.
Do we have to elect a Tory government to have a whiff of socialism?
Depressing our prisons are overfull as Labour get tough on crime well the shadow home secretary holds a bye election to polish his halo and prove his party are soft on terror.
The presence of police on the streets has never been greater, and they are on foot or cycle just like the 60s and yet the deterrent is not as effective probably because there was no mobile phones in the 60s.
