Lloyds TSB shareholders' decision to approve its takeover of HBOS is widely accepted as a good one and the best way of protecting jobs.
That it is also the conclusion of Accord, the union that represents more than half of HBOS staff, is both significant and extremely encouraging.
They, after all, will be the ones involved in workforce negotiations once the deal is concluded.
If they see it as the best option, then it would be foolish to argue otherwise.
That still does not ease the worry of 6,500 people employed in Halifax whose lives are in limbo with Christmas around the corner.
Would it not be a wonderful early present if Lloyds TSB boss Eric Daniels took us up on our long-standing invitation to visit the town now?
His presence would show that the hard- working people at HBOS have not been forgotten and will play an important and integral role in any new company.
