Why continuity is so important
Ian Adam has been paid many accolades in his 10 years as head of Ryburn Valley High School.
And with good reason.
Exam results continue to improve year on year under his stewardship and he was pivotal in the ground-breaking transfer from the old school to its new premises.
His duties did not stop there. He has also had roles as executive head at St Catherine's High and co-director of Campus Calderdale.
His contribution to education in Calderdale is clearly immense.
He retires at the end of the summer term and will, of course, be sorely missed.
The position will be filled by Honor Byford, his deputy and a teacher at the school for 27 years.
Her appointment was greeted by a standing ovation from both students and staff. What a touching and reassuring response.
How lucky they all are to have someone who is so highly thought of, ready to fill the breach.
Educational success is reliant on many different things.
Continuity, without doubt, is one of the most important.
