The Older People's Strategy, significantly launched at Eureka children's museum is an inspired idea that will meet with universal approval.
There are 30,000 people locally over the age of 65 and that number will grow significantly over the next 10 years.
That is quite a lobby among Calderdale's 200,000 inhabitants, one that deserves to be listened to and catered for. Which has not always been the case.
"One of our priorities is to ensure that they stay in control of their lives and play a full and active role in society and maintain their independence," says the council's older people's champion.
And who could argue with that.
We are often told that yesterday's 60 is today's 40. People live to a greater age and remain active longer. And that should be reflected in the way they are treated and listened to.
