Ben Black is line for his seasonal home debut against Whitehaven on Sunday but does he remember the last time he faced the Cumbrians at the Shay?
That was a sensational match on Sunday July 10, 2005 which Fax won 60-18.
One criticism of Anthony Farrell's sides of that period was that they were remarkably inconsistent but when they did get their act together they could match anyone.
Remember the way in which they demolished champions-elect Leigh at home in 2004?
Or the manner in which Castleford were dismantled in the Challenge Cup in April 2005?
The problem was when the Tigers returned for the league match a few weeks later, Fax were a pale shadow of the team which had been so impressive in the first game.
When second placed Whitehaven hove into view that sunny Sunday Halifax had had a good June but then lost by eight points at Hull KR the previous Sunday.
And Black had been quiet after his season had been spoilt by an ankle injury sustained against Castleford then a cheekbone knock.
Farrell's team that day was Damian Gibson, Alan Hadcroft, James Haley, Anthony Blackwood, Rikki Sherriffe, Pat Weisner, Dean Lawford, Chris Morley, Ben Fisher, Jason Boults, Dave Larder, Andy Spink and Damian Ball with Black, Ryan MacDonald, Andy Hobson and Scott Law on the bench.
Black was soon in action though as Dean Lawford's back, a persistent problem for months, went in the first 10 minutes.
The halfback spent the rest of the first half lying on the concrete floor in the dugout having it manipulated.
It has been remarked upon with hindsight how important Farrell's four Australians were to the blend of the side that year when the team were within minutes of a Grand Final which ironically would have been against Haven. They managed 40 points between them in this one match alone yet by the time that the 2006 season started only Gibson was still at the Shay.
Weisner went to Super League with Harlequins, Black back to Oz and Fisher (who broke the Fax record for tries in a season by a hooker in this match) moved to Hull KR.
Farrell was sure the little number nine would have come back and had offered him an improved new contract designed to fight off interest from other clubs.
Fisher had been unsettled in mid season anyway when Bradford declared an interest and the story goes that he only agreed to move to Humberside after being brainwashed by Rovers' scrum half James Webster when they roomed together whilst playing for Scotland at the end of the season!
Perhaps another intriguing thing to ponder is that when Black returned to the Shay a couple of weeks ago, only Gibson, Haley, Larder and Ball of the team which butchered Whitehaven nearly three years ago were there to greet him.
There was an interesting sideshow towards the end of the game versus Haven though.
Referee Julian King finally had enough of a series of skirmishes between Ryan MacDonald and Paul Davidson and put the latter in the sinbin.
That's the last we saw of "Les" on a pitch….
