A host of celebrities are lending their support to a Calderdale ball which is raising money for a health charity that supports millions of women.
CALDERDALE could be awash with stars next month, and it's all thanks to marketing director Kate Hardcastle of Holywell Green.

The 31-year-old suffers from a condition called endometriosis and has organised a glamorous summer ball to raise awareness of the illness and funds for the Endometriosis UK charity which supports sufferers.

Endometriosis is a common but little-known condition that affects more than two million women in the UK. It occurs when cells that usually line the womb are found elsewhere in the body. It can affect fertility, be painful and take on average, eight years to diagnose. No one knows what causes it and there is no known cure.

The Butterfly Benefit Ball, as Kate has named it, takes place on Friday, July 4, in the newly refurbished Rock Inn at Holywell Green, and is being supported by Geri Halliwell and Girls Aloud, who have send autographed items to be auctioned. X Factor stars have also send messages and Kate hopes Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars will make an appearance on the night.

Former Coronation Street star Scott Wright is the ball's host. Scott played heartthrob Sam Kingston in the soap a few years ago, and has more recently popped up in Shameless and Emmerdale. Some lucky female guest at the ball could be going on a hot date with him to see Kylie Minogue at the MEN Arena in July.

One of the top auction prizes is tickets for two friends to join Scott and a celebrity pal and watch the superstar on her sell out tour. They will have VIP tickets for drinks in the exclusive Halo Lounge before the show along with some of the best seats in the house.

If that isn't enough to encourage individuals and companies to attend the star-studded ball, Kate hopes the evenings food and entertainment will be. The event begins with a drinks reception, followed by a three-course meal in the ballroom.

Entertainment is by the Soul & Motown Allstars featuring the Yorkshire Dreamgirls.

The Yorkshire Dreamgirls are made up of Kate and two friends, Hannah Cygan Wrobleski and Lisa Roberts who used to be in a band and sing together as teenagers. They got back together last year to celebrate their 30th birthdays and organised a charity Soul & Motown Revue featuring Martha Reeves at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, last year which was a sell out. The Allstars are made up of nine of Yorkshire's best known musicians who have worked with Corinne Bailey Rae and Mark Ronson, among others.

International film company Paramount is also supporting the ball and every guest will receive an exclusive gift from the company.

"This is the first big fundraiser ever for endometriosis, a national first held here in Calderdale, so I hope lots of people will come along and support it," says Kate who started with endometriosis eight years ago and is affected by it to some extend most days.

As well as the pain and fatigue, there is mental damage, she claims, and it doesn't just affect the female sufferer but her family too. Some of the funds raised will help support services in Yorkshire such as local groups and a free helpline.

Tickets for the ball are £50 each or £450 for a table of 10. Anyone who would like to know more can email Butterflybenefit@hotmail.co.uk or call 07766605645.

Looks like a fantastic night will be had by all, and for an extremely good cause. Well done to Kate again for bringing some glamour to the area; her hard work and determination is inspiring. x
