HE has worked in some of the best pubs in London and was taught to cook by the man who trained Jamie Oliver.
Now Tej Verdee is bringing his expertise to Calderdale.
The 33-year-old is the new owner of the Country House Inn, Halifax Road, Hipperholme.
"I'm excited and nervous. I've always wanted to own my own pub," he said.
"I'm really looking forward to meeting my new customers."
Mr Verdee has worked as a chef in restaurants and pubs across London as well as Switzerland. He was trained by a master cellarman whose pub made two top pub guides.
He is opening a restaurant at the pub – Benrimoj's – named after the top chef whose culinary students also include Jamie Oliver.
It will serve dishes from across the globe. The head chef is a woman who ran four restaurants in Malaysia.
Mr Verdee says he will be adding extra real ales to the bar and will be encouraging families to visit.
The pub will be run by 21-year-old Sara Brough who has helped manage the Royal Oak and White Horse in Halifax town centre.
Mr Verdee is hoping to reopen the Country House on Friday, December 5.
