Latest food hygiene ratings: Grandma's won her five stars
Published Date:

THE scores from the food police's latest inspections are in.
Eight places are celebrating the top rating of five stars for food hygiene.
Only one takeaway – the Bismillah Roti House in Gibbet Street, Halifax – failed to achieve any stars.
Tony Pollard, owner of five star-rated fish and chip shop Grandma Pollard's, said he was pleased but not surprised by the rating. "The star rating is an excellent way of recognising the high standards of what a well-run food business can achieve, for both staff ad customers," he said.
The shop has been in business for 50 years. Tony inherited a love for batter and a fryer after watching his parents, the then owners of Grandma Pollard's.
Lizzie Leadbeater, partner at OC's Cafe, Huddersfield Road, Salterhebble, Halifax, also achieved the top rating. The premises has been trading for only six months. She praised the hard work of her staff and thought publishing the ratings was a good idea.
"It's great that people have access to this information," she said.
She said her team enjoyed their work and aimed to provide good food in a clean environment.
Faifal Khan, manager of the Bismillah Roti House, said work was ongoing to improve its rating.
Teams from environmental health have been publishing their findings since last summer.
Five stars mean above minimum hygiene standards. Two stars mean owners are complying with the law.
