IT has been a long road to recovery which has ended in success for one Calderdale horse and rider.
Six years ago Jazz – show name Jazz Pzazz – was so sick she was almost put to sleep.
But thanks to the determination and care of her owner Sue Norton, Jazz is not only back to health but showing a winning streak.
Sue, who lives in Mytholmroyd, said it had been an amazing year.
"Getting Jazz back to health has been a real team effort with credit going to Peter Schofield of Hird and Partners, Carole Taylor of the Yorkshire Equine Clinic and my trainer Rose Whatley."
Proving she was back on top form, Jazz, a part bred Irish draught started her winning campaign in August, taking sixth place in the Prelim Dressage Championship at the Festival of Champions National Championships held at the Great Yorkshire Showground.
Building on that success, the pair took first place in the dressage section of the Riding Club National Championships, winning the Knightsbridge Trophy.
And it didn't stop there. Against stiff competition, Sue and Jazz came fourth in the veteran class at the National Irish Draught Championships held on Lincoln County Show-ground.
It was a successful day for the yard at Clough House Liveries, in Soyland, Ripponden.
The yard is also the base for Touchstone Irish Draught Stud which enjoyed success in the combined training class with Princess Rosie ridden by Rose Whatley.
Sue, who is a radiography lecturer at Salford Uni- versity, is a member of Pennine Riding Club and Calderdale Sadde Club.
