It's not too long ago that women would refuse to let their partner see them without make-up.
But how times have changed. Today women not only go bare-faced in the bedroom, but take their other half along with them when they hit the beauty salon.
Pampering for couples is big business in the UK today and catching on at more and more beauty salons and spas.
The idea being that you lie on a bed next to your other half and share a relaxing experience. Those in the know say unwinding together brings you closer and can do wonders for your sex life!
Beauty therapist Fiona McCall, who has just opened Radiance Beauty Spa in Square Road, Halifax, believes the demand for "together" treatments will keep on growing, which is why she is offering His and Her packages at her spa which opened last month.
The 24-year-old has been in the beauty business since she was a teenager and has owned her own business for the last six years. "A lot of women used to ask if they could bring their husband or partner along at my last salon but I didn't have the room. Now I have and I'm already getting bookings."
She says men visiting beauty salons is a sign of the times and proves that they not only care about their skin but also appreciate how having some "time out" can do wonders for their stress levels and health. And any man who booked treatments for himself and his partner would definitely get top marks. "I think a lot of women would be impressed if their other half booked treatments together for a special treat. I know I'd like it," says Fiona who works alongside three therapists and offers all the usual beauty treats along with alternative therapies such as reflexology and hopi ear candles.
His and Her packages at Radiance can be tailor-made. Couples can book in for two hours or longer and choose their treatments. Fiona expects facial, massage, pedicures and manicures to be popular with both sexes. Couples can even have the spa to themselves. Prices start at £50 per person.
Hen party packages are also proving popular. Parties of between four and 12 get to take over the spa for a morning, afternoon or full day. Prices start at £70 a head and include a facial, back massage, manicure and lunch.
