I WAS so pleased when I opened my Courier to see a photo of my dad, Ned Helliwell (pictured), of Pye Nest, Halifax.

I am 89 years of age and I watched him play many matches of knur and spell, which he always won.

When I was a little girl and he was practising on Norland Moor I used to do the fielding. When he had the championship match at Spring Rock in 1964 my son did the fielding.

My dad would have been so proud to know that knur and spell was being mentioned again. Thank you.

(Mrs) W Dixon
