THE young guns are out in force on Sunday.
After the disappointment of defeat by champions York in their last outing, Halifax and Huddersfield chief Chris Mear has shuffled his pack for the Inter Union clash against Harrogate on Sunday.
And the non-playing skipper believes that while it is
a more youthful side that steps on the tee at Bradley Park, there is no lack of quality and there is also the added bonus of giving the emerging players more match experience as he begins to look towards next term.
"There are some young players but there are no worries about putting them in and with Richard Broadley and Graham McLean back in the side we have plenty of quality and experience at the top of the order," said Mear.
Iain Powell, Jim Fairhurst and Danny Stocchero are all unavailable and Frazer Scholefield is also missing from the side which lost to York, with Ogden man Mark Birkett one of those drafted in.
Unsurprisingly, Meltham youngster Jamie Bower retains his place after a superb performance in that defeat by York at Heworth when he won both his foursomes and singles matches, and Ryan Greenwood also stays in after also playing well in that fixture.
"Jamie and Ryan did very well at Heworth and those two and the likes of Andy Shaw are good players who are also playing very well at the moment, so let's hope they can keep it up," added Mear.
Harrogate are in bottom spot at the moment with the home side just one place above them, and clearly neither side can get their hands on league silverware this term.
But Mear is determined his side get back to winning ways in this penultimate fixture of the Inter Union season, particularly with places in the Inter Union Six Man Championship at Fixby up for grabs.
"We want a win I just hope that gap between us is wider after Sunday's match," said Mear.
