INTREPID Castlefields duo Richard Badrock and Fred Leek came down from Mount Skip yesterday several golf balls lighter, but with an Alliance title in the bag.
The pair defied difficult breezy conditions at Hebden Bridge to card a 38 point Stableford score which was enough to win them the Am Am section of the event by a clear two points.

"We lost four balls on the first nine holes alone so we would have been happy enough with a score of around 34," said a delighted Leek.

"But we came back well and even found a ball on the last nine so we're very pleased."

There was plenty of home success to celebrate though, with Ken Weatherill and Peter Smith taking second spot on a last nine countback from Independent Huddersfield duo Mike Dempsey and Peter Newey.

And Hebden Bridge professional David Astin made the most of his local knowledge to win the Pro Am section with playing partner Andy Cryer.

Big hitting Astin bagged three birdies on the back nine, the last of which he clinched with a monster putt on the last, to help his side to 39 points, four points ahead of Ryburn pro Chris Thewliss and colleague James Washington
