So it was perhaps no surprise that he was in outstanding form at the Union's Junior Team Championship at Todmorden GC at the weekend.

Colcombe scorched around the Rive Rocks course, bagging the best gross prize after carding a fine 72 and in the process leading his Longley Park GC team to victory in the competition as a whole.

Colcombe received some fine support from his team mates, with Charles Ryan-Hicks posting a tidy 75, John Doherty 84 and Adam Walker 87 with the best three scores counting to give their side a gross total of 231, a comfortable four shots clear of Meltham who in turn finished two shots ahead of third placed West End in the Bertie's of Elland sponsored competition.

Longley Park will now be eligible to play in the county qualifying competition for the EGU Junior Club tournament, which takes place at Billingham GC in the north east on Sunday, July 13.

The Halifax GC team were also in fine form, the team with the lowest aggregate net scores will hold the D A Gordon Trophy for one year.

Adam Curry was the star performer with a net 64, with support coming from Nick Bennett with 70, Alistair Holroyde who carded a 72 and Jamie Smith with 79.

Lowest net score went to Christopher Cox of Woodsome Hall with a fine 63.
