ANDY Alexander led a clean sweep for the host club in Saturday's West End Trophy, highlight of West End's Open Week.
Long-term member Alexander, playing off 12, pipped Bradley Hardcastle (8) and Liam Brompton (9) on countback after all three returned nett scores of 140.
The winner, one of the earlier starters, was slightly off the pace after a morning 72 with Frank Greaves and Nathan Raynor sharing the lead with 68s.
However, Alexander had a 68 in his second round and although his total was there to be shot at, nobody could better it.
Breezy conditions and a course set up with some tricky pin positions ensured it was never going to be a cake walk for the 80 competitors, the majority of which were from West End.
Neville Lumb, a former West End member now with the Royal Liverpool club at Hoylake, was playing in his 50th consecutive West End Trophy.
His son Richard has won the event but staunch AFC Halifax Town fan Neville was unable to follow suit.

  • Having recently recorded his first score below the course par of 70, Richard Leeming continued his run of form in West End's Jubilee Trophy, a greensome competition, along with his playing partner, David Ward.

  • Starting first at 7am, they returned a nett score of 62.6 which proved to be unbeatable.

Several other pairings reached the 18th green believing they were in with a chance of the title but were soon to be dismayed upon entering the clubhouse.
A total of 150 golfers took part in the competition.
