THERE is no doubt the future is bright for Lightcliffe GC as their rich crop of junior talent shone both on their home course and elsewhere at the weekend.
One of the jewels in the crown is Hannah Holden, who last week won the bronze category in the Yorkshire Girls' Junior Championship at Catterick with 38 Stableford points and has since been selected to play for Yorkshire in the Northern County Junior
Girls' Jamboree at Dinsdale Spa GC in Darlington.
And the 12-year-old continued her sizzling form on her home course last Wednesday, her net 79 landing her first prize in the Lightcliffe Lady Captain's Day junior competition.
J Killian was victorious in the main competition which began in fine weather but ended in tricky conditions for the late starters.
The boys were not to be outdone, however, and 12 handicap junior Thomas Williams put in a fantastic show to win the men's senior Captain's Day competition last weekend.
Despite appalling conditions, the 15-year-old carded a brilliant net 62 then a net 69 for a 131 total to win by one shot from nine handicapper James Parkinson.
And Parkinson was the only non-junior among the first three as Williams' fellow youngster Marcus Peel, who is 14 and also plays off 12, took third place, a further shot back with a 133 total.
Edward Pickles, son of the Captain Robert, took best gross with a 135 total.
Results (handicaps in brackets) - Captain's Prize: 1 Thomas Williams (12) 62 + 69 = 131, 2 James Parkinson (9) 69 + 63 = 132, 3 Marcus Peel (12) 64 + 69 = 133. Best gross: Edward Pickles (6) 67 + 68 = 135.
