Lightcliffe's county bid

LIGHTCLIFFE Golf Club's Ladies' A team has qualified to play in the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Ladies' Inter Club 'A' Team Match Play Championship at York Golf Club, Strensall, on September 4.
A total of 111 teams of seven ladies from all over Yorkshire started out and the highest-scoring four teams have qualified for the finals
Lightcliffe won 30 matches and as fourth highest scoring qualifiers play against first-placed Hainsworth Park, who managed 32 wins.
Second and third placed finishers Saltburn (31 wins) and Low Laithes (30.5) contest the other semi-final, with the winners going through to the afternoon final which starts at 2.00.
Lightcliffe's qualifying results: Huddersfield Fixby - Won 6-1(h) & 4.5-2.5 (a); Howley Hall - Won 7-0* (h) & 4-3 (a); Wath - Won 6-1 (h) & Lost 2.5-4.5 (a).
* A FIELD of 155 competitors played in a bogey competition where players compete against the Bradley Hall course.
Despite a dreadful weather forecast, the competiton was played in light winds with sunshine and not a drop of rain to a C.S.S. of 70.
The overall winner, ex Nottinghamshire cricketer Phil Wilkinson, came in with a score of +3 and was closely followed by six competitiors with scores of +2.
Amongst those were Declan Wadcock, who holed in one at the second, and Bradley Hall's Union regular, Andrew Shaw (+1) together with juniors players Jonathan Gittins and Andrew Hare.

* THERE are still places available for the Halifax/Huddersfield and District Alliance Mixed Greensome event at Hanging Heaton on Tuesday September 2.
