MATT Colcombe was the winner when the second scratch open competition for the Everitt Cup took place at Crow Nest Park.
Conditions were tough, with a gusting wind proving troublesome, and a 70 was good enough for the Longley Park player to take the honours in an event which attracted 24 low handicap players from across the area - twice as many as in 2008.

Home club player Richard Langley-Webb took the prize for best nett.

RESULTS - Best nett: Richard Langley-Webb 70. Longest drive: Mark Widdop. Nearest the pin: Raj Panesar. Best gross: 1, Matt Colcombe 70; 2, Chris Mowl 71; 3, Nathan Scott 74.

HEBDEN Bridge pair Gwen Davies and Francis Tighe were the winners when Crown Nest Park's second Ladies Open attracted players from West and South Yorkshire.

They scored 45 points at the Hove Edge course, where rain threatened and thunder and lightening appeared as the last group arrived on the last hole.

RESULTS: 1, Gwen Davies (Hebden Bridge) and Francis Tighe ( Hebden Bridge) 45 pts; 2, Julie Marks (Bingley St Ives) and Elaine Tordoff (Northcliffe) 44 pts; 3, Barbara Nellis (Bradley Hall ) and Ann Stafford (Crow Nest) 43 pts; 4, Tina Ives (Bradley Hall) and Helen Pearson (Crow Nest) 42 pts. Nearest the pin: Helen Pearson (Crow Nest).

THEY are going hole in one crazy at Dewsbury Golf Club where Mike Derry and Ian Furness shot aces over Phil Smith's Captain's Weekend competitions, bringing the total to six in the last month.

The Captain's Prize was won by Andrew McMahon who, off eight handicap, shot 75 on Saturday and 76 on Sunday for a nett 135 total and a one shot victory over Jim Ewens.

The best gross score was returned by Edward Battye who shot 69, 74, for 143.
