THE long journey from Gloucestershire to Woodsome Hall proved well worthwhile for Richard Priddy.
The eight handicapper and home club playing partner James Lord surged to victory in the 18 hole Stableford competition at the Woodsome Hall Gentlemans' Invitation Day to carry off the McGill Bowl.

After the rains of Friday, there were worries over the state of the course but it proved to have drained well and indeed was in excellent shape, with the fairways dry and the greens level and true.

However, despite sunny weather, a strong wind meant conditions were still testing, though that held few fears for four handicapper Lord and his colleague as they earned an impressive 44 point total.

That was matched by Woodsome Hall's Paddy Carmody and his playing partner Sean Mulcahy from Ireland's Co Kerry, but Lord and Priddy edged it on a countback.

Results:

1 James Lord (Woodsome Hall, 4) and Richard Priddy (Brickhampton Complex, Gloucester, 8). 44, won on countback.

2 Paddy Carmody (Woodsome Hall, 20) and Sean Mulcahy (Castle Island, Co Kerry, 16) 44.

3 Richard Holt (Woodsome Hall, 2) and Sean Bacon (Matlock, 7) 42, third on countback.

4 Steve Hirst (Woodsome Hall, 18) and Mark Brogden (Northcliffe, 13) 42.
