THE rain curtailed last week's Inter Union junior clash between the Halifax and Huddersfield side and Teesside at Crosland Heath, but not before the home team had done enough to clinch victory.
And the 23-13 triumph consolidates second place in the table for Frank Greaves' side who are enjoying a fine season and are well set to take the runners up spot behind Sheffield.

Halifax and Huddersfield took a commanding 8-4 lead after the morning foursomes with Lewis Howell of Willow Valley and home player Michael Lawrie in particularly good form as they saw off Callum Marr and Danny Worton 9&7.

The home side then won three of the first four singles before the rain then swept in, forcing the last seven matches to be abandoned, but with Halifax and Huddersfield well in front, victory was already assured.

Foursomes

Ryan Greenwood (West End) and Jamie Bower (Meltham) v Steve Higgins and Jamie Lawrence (both Middlesbrough) match halved.

George Bamford and Adam Cryer (both Hebden Bridge) bt Dan Waite and Chris Alcock (both Saltburn) 6&5.

Joe Hill (Huddersfield) and Mathew Colcombe (Longley Park) v Jake Glendinning and Liam Sullivan (Middlesbrough Muni), match halved.

Nathan Scott and Ben Adamson (both Crow Nest Park) lost to James Pearce and Grant Scott (both Seaton Carew) 1 up.

Lewis Howell (Willow Valley) and Michael Lawrie (Crosland Heath) bt Callum Marr and Danny Worton (Middlesbrough) 9&7.

Ben Simpson and Stephen Pullen (both Saddleworth) bt Jackson Kneeshaw and Sam Scott (both Oak Leaf) 2&1.

Singles

Greenwood bt Higgins 3&2.

Colcombe by Lawrence 7&6.

Bower v Alcock, match halved.

Hill bt Waite 4&3.

  • All other matches abandoned.

Final score: Halifax and Huddersfield Union 23, Teesside 13.

LEWIS Howell of Willow Valley will meet Nicolas Marsh of Elland in the final of the Halifax and Huddersfield Union's Junior Matchplay Championship, which will take place at Halifax GC on Sunday, August 31.

Howell looked to be up against it in the semi finals as he faced the much fancied Mathew Colcombe on Colcombe's home course of Longley Park, but he prevailed by one hole, while Marsh also saw off a Longley Park player on his home patch as he defeated John Doherty 4&3.

THE Union's Junior League quarter and semi finals take place this Sunday, August 17 at Outlane, the last eight games teeing off from 8.30am and the semi finals at 1.30pm, with the final to be played at Halifax GC on Sunday, August 24.

Quarter final draw: Outlane v Meltham, Hanging Heaton v West End, Woodsome Hall v Willow Valley, Longley Park v Lightcliffe.
