THE 13th Rotary Club of Halifax Charity Golf Day, backed by the Yorkshire Bank and staged at West End, proved a lucky one for Mike Riley.
The Bradley Hall nine handicapper not only won the longest drive and nearest the pin prizes but also helped his ABC Fire Protection side to team honours.

Riley, clubmate Clive McFadzean (4) and home club player Andrew Guest (17) bagged 84 Stableford points with the team's top two scores counting on 16 of the holes and all three scores on the other two holes.

The ABC players, who each won a case of wine sponsored by Cattles Financial Services, could even afford to complete the first two holes a player short after Guest had been held up in traffic.

Forty one teams took part in mixed weather - early afternoon rain gave way to some rare sunshine - and the course was in tremendous shape considering the amount of rain it had been forced to soak up.

ABC won by a two-point margin from BM Howarth (82 points), Lambert, Roper and Horsfield (82), Yorkshire Bank (82) and Hepworth Honda (81).

Yorkshire Bank have been tremendous sponsors of the event for 10 years and one of their players, Martin Rothera, won the prize for nearest the pin with a second shot at the sixth.

The event raised £8,200 for local charities and has raised around £100,000 over the last decade.
