A GREAT effort by Sowerby Bridge based Colin Smith saw him and his Woodsome Hall GC colleagues through to the regional final of the prestigious Audi Quattro Cup UK tournament.
Smith, 52, along with team mates Andrew McArdle, Ashley Mills and Keith Pollard competed in the qualifier over 18 holes at their home course against 40 other amateur entrants.
McArdle won the event with a score of 41 points with Smith, Mills and Pollard on 37, 34 and 33 respectively in the Stableford event.
The Woodsome Hall quartet will now progress as two pairs to one of the five Regional Final events against winners from other courses in qualifying events being staged up to the end of June, with the four best scoring pairs at this event heading for the Audi Quattro Cup UK Final at Bovey Castle, Devon on September 3.
The two pairs winning this will contest the Audi Quattro Cup World Final staged at the ABAMA Resort GC in Tenerife from October 17-21.
More than 75,000 players from more than 30 countries will take part in the competition in all and will hope to emulate Londoners Mike Williams and Edward Greenhalgh who became the first British team to win the event last year.
