FOR the second year running, it was a Fixby man who took the PS Cockroft Trophy at a rainswept West End on Sunday.
One handicapper Brad Tupman followed up the success of clubmate Mark England last year as he posted rounds of 73 and 72 to carry off the trophy.
On a day when play was suspended for 40 minutes at one point as heavy showers blanketed the course, Tupman kept going through the worst of the elements and his 145 total was enough to earn him a two shot winning margin over home youngster Ryan Greenwood.
Bradley Hall's Union regular Andy Shaw was third with two more homesters in young Sam Bridges and Union youth supremo Frank Greaves taking fourth and fifth spot respectively.
Greaves had the consolation of winning the round two best gross prize with a 72 while Ben Crowther of Dewsbury District took the round one gross honours with a 70.
Greenwood took the Jubilee Trophy for the category two gross section.
The top 32 finishers go forward to the Union Individual Match Play Championship, the first two rounds of which is held at Halifax GC on Sunday, August 24.
