DETERIORATING conditions did not deter the Halifax and Huddersfield Rabbits Association side who saw off their Leeds counterparts at Ryburn.
And the 4.5-1.5 winning margin meant they retained the trophy played for in this annual fixture for the third year running.

The course was in excellent condition and stayed that way despite the rain sweeping in, but the home side's president John Turner and playing partner Malcolm Turner got them of to a winning start against visiting president Fane Pike of Horsforth and his colleague Ron Walker and they never relaxed their grip.

Results (HHDRGA names first)

John Turner & Malcolm Turner beat Fane Pike & Ron Walker (2 & 1)

Jack McGrath & Malcolm Elam beat Peter Corcoran & Bob Samme (6&5)

Bob Grierson & Tony Taylor beat John Danby & Vic Daniel (7&6)

Barry Goldspink & Brian Hinton & John Danby & Cliff Beddows (a/s)

Adrian Ashworth & Keith Walls beat Jim Thirsk & Geoff Read (5 & 4)

Michael Halstead & John Elliott lost Tony Booth & Trevor Gurney (2 up).
