A MEMORABLE week at Lightcliffe GC saw a hugely successful Mens' Presentation Lunch on Sunday followed by the unveiling of new all weather practice facilities which are set to be a boon for both senior and junior members of the flourishing club.
Lightcliffe have become renowned for their popular school holiday junior golf sessions under professional Ron Tickle, and it was appropriate that the youngsters who flocked to this week's half term classes were the first to try out the new development, which consists of 60 metres of state of the art all weather turf.
"The all weather facility was jointly funded by grants from Sport England and the Golf Foundation, and we were pleased to see the youngster trying it out," said Tickle.
The recent atrocious weather meant the all wether turf came into its own, allowing the week's junior sessions to go ahead as planned, though the junior mini tournament which is due to end the sessions on Friday will be modified to take account of the conditions.
The opening of the facility followed that Mens' Presentation which proved an extremely enjoyable event with around 90 people attending including club captain Robert Pickles and president Nick Crowther.
Particular applause was reserved for Frazer Scholefield, who assists Tickle in the club shop.
Scholefield, who plays off a handicap of one and is just 22, picked up the Glick Scratch Trophy and was also honoured as the new course record holder after shooting a remarkable 63 in a club Stableford during the summer.
