Halifax Renaissance - realising the dream

Halifax Renaissance is now well under way. It is four years since the project was started and now we are seeing the first results with building work well under way in the town centre.
The coverered area of Westgate is actually at the stage where the finishing touches are being made.
It's been a long wait for the businesses there but they will hopefully soon find that it has been worthwhile. At Elsie Whiteley they are planning their offical opening but several firms are already enjoying working in the superb mill renovation.
The dream of opening up the front of Somerset House is coming to life too and is attracting lots of attention from shoppers walking down Rawson Street.
Several other projects are also under way, though Renaissance in Halifax is more than just about the work of the Town Team, which drew up the Streets Ahead document to outline its vision for making Halifax a better place to live, work and visit.
Lots of people are working hard to improve the town. Calderdale Council's plans for Broad Street are really moving forward and the Electric Bowl was a fantastic addition to Halifax's leisure offering.
In this section of the Courier's website, as chairman of Halifax Renaissance Team, I hope to keep a diary of the changes going on in Halifax and welcome your opinions and ideas. You can add comments to any article in this blog or email me at john.kenealy@halifaxcourier.co.uk
