Lessons on keeping beautiful buildings
Published Date:

Halifax, long renowned for its beautiful architecture, will now join London, Oxford and Liverpool as a destination for specialist classes on maintaining Georgian buildings.
Practical lessons, including hands on demonstrations and expert talks, will offer advice to owners, architects, builders and conservation officers wanting to repair and restore 18th and early 19th century buildings.
Michael Bidnell, of The Georgian Group who are running the lessons, said: "We take these lessons to towns with a decent heritage and Halifax certainly falls into that category.
"We hope they will be well attended because disseminating knowledge like this is the best way of ensuring these buildings survive and don't fall into disrepair."
The Peace Hall, Somerset House and the Square Chapel are all examples of Georgian architecture in Calderdale.
Lessons will focus on brickwork and stonework, joinery and decorative plasterwork. Run week beginning Monday October 15at Calderdale College. Places should be booked in advance.
