THIS weekend is about two games, not one.
The first takes place tonight when Salford make the long haul down to South Wales to take on Celtic Crusaders.
Quite what the odds are on the Reds getting the win that Halifax so desperately need them to get is open to debate.
Salford will want the win; Celtic need it.
And in the final analysis, that might just tip the scales in the wrong direction.
Either way, Fax will wake up tomorrow morning facing two subtly different scenarios.
If the Reds have won, they will head to Featherstone looking for a result, however they can get it.
If the Crusaders have clinched second, leaving Matt Calland's side marooned in third spot, the performance becomes all important.
For weeks now, Calland has been banging the drum about building some momentum ahead of the play offs.
And for weeks, his injury-ravaged side have steadfastly refused to generate it.
But while Fax lost last week's crucial showdown with Celtic, there were some subtle things in their performance that indicate better days may be just around the corner.
Despite a couple of goal line lapses, Fax were more aggressive, more enthusiastic, in defence than they have been for several weeks.
And the return of captain Sean Penkywicz made them infinitely more dangerous going forward.
Tomorrow, they have a choice: they can either build on that or slip backwards again.
They cannot afford the latter.
