THERE is no such thing as an easy game of rugby league.
The sport is too brutal for that.
But Halifax certainly made this look easy, winning at a canter as they opened their National League One account for the year.

See the slide show from the game.

Mark Aston's Eagles, such dogged, determined opponents at the end of last season, were out of this contest inside the first 10 minutes as the home side, presumably inspired by the newly acquired pre-match razzmatazz, unleashed a devastating opening salvo.
Playing with real verve, Fax racked up 18 quickfire points, with the supremely confident Lee Patterson setting the ball rolling after just 57 seconds, followed in short order by playmakers Sean Penkywicz and Mick Govin, with Graham Holroyd banging over the first three of an eventual six from 10 conversions.
After that, against a Sheffield side clearly lacking Fax's attacking power, it was always a question of how many points Matt Calland's men would manage to accrue on a cold, blustery Shay night.
They eventually called a halt at 10 tries, three of them to marauding full back Shad Royston, while Patterson claimed a second in another blistering display.
Calland's post-match expression confirmed there is still plenty of work to be done, Fax conceded too many soft points and made too many errors for the coach's comfort, but there were also passages of real brilliance, more often than not down the left flank where Patterson, Royston, Jon Goddard and David Larder provided Holroyd with so many attacking options.
When the sun shines and the hard grounds come, the sparks should really fly.
The opening try arrived after Penkywicz, Holroyd and Larder had worked the space for Goddard to put boot to ball, and Patterson toe poked it out of the reach of Eagles full back Jonny Woodcock to touchdown.
Holroyd added the extras from touch, and was on hand to convert again when Penkywicz's speed took him through a static defence to score under the posts.
Fax were already in command. Govin's powerfully taken try, and Holroyd's goal, effectively finished the visitors off.
Sheffield did manage a reply, through Alex Rowe's try and Woodcock's conversion, but a scintillating touchline burst by Patterson paved the way for Royston's first score, Holroyd kicking Fax into a 24-6 lead after 25 minutes.
Danny Mills looked to have given Sheffield the faintest glimmer of half time hope with a try a minute before the interval, but even that proved false, Royston taking advantage of a loose pass to send Patterson over by the left hand flag, Holroyd again on target from the sideline to set up a 30-10 interval lead.
Fax promptly repeated their lightning start to the opening period; Royston and replacement centre James Haley, with a clever finish after a fine pass from Andy Smith, scoring tries inside the first three minutes of the second half for a 40-10 advantage.
Mitchell Stringer's try gave Sheffield some comfort, but Govin somehow got the ball down after forcing his way over to the left of the posts and Royston and loose forward Miles Greenwood both profited from cunning inside passes from Holroyd as Fax reasserted their authority at 52-16.
If there was a disappointment, it came in the last six minutes, when Stringer and Mills both scored fortuitous tries that gave the Eagles a false veneer of scoreboard respectability.

STARMAN
The backs took the plaudits at the Shay last night after serving up another dollop of attacking artistry.
But, as always, it was the forwards who did the donkey work, and no one did it more effectively than Dana Wilson.
The former Leigh and Oldham prop has made a steady rather than spectacular start to his Fax career, but posted his best performance to date against the Eagles.
Wilson made plenty of metres every time he drove the ball in, and, just as importantly, crowned each carry with the kind of quick play the ball Fax's playmakers thrive on, earning him three points in the season-long Star Man competition.
It doesn't take an expert to spot the fact that winger Lee Patterson is at the top of his game.
The former Swinton and Rochdale player has been a revelation so far this year and his two tries last night confirmed his growing reputation - as well as his lead at the top of the scoring charts.
It wasn't just about the tries though. The touchline run he made to set up Shad Royston's first score midway through the second half was just about worth the admission money alone.
The final point goes to Royston, whose ability to sniff out a try is second to none.
The Australian, who might have had a fourth had he not been hauled back unfairly as he homed in on a second half kick through, has that knack of being the man in the right place, at the right time.
He makes it look simple. But everyone knows it isn't.
