HALIFAX stand off Graham Holroyd claimed either a share of Tuss Griffith's 52-year old goals-in-a-season record at Featherstone yesterday or set a whole new benchmark - depending on whether you count what is quickly becoming known as the 'Melbourne One'.
Holroyd booted eight conversions at Post Office Road, taking him to 147 - equalling the mark set by Halifax's famous Welsh full back in 1955/6 - or 148 if you count the solitary conversion he slotted over in Fax's one-off date with the Storm back in February.

The Rugby Football League's official record keepers are minded to ignore non-competitive fixtures, although the date with the NRL champions was hardly a soft option.

Either way, Holroyd's name will now be etched into the history of his hometown club.

"I was hoping to break it cleanly yesterday, but I have at least a share of it now," said Holroyd, who failed to convert Fax's last three tries - any one of which would have given him undisputed ownership.

"I don't know whether you should count the Melbourne one or not, but it was definitely on my mind with those last few conversions yesterday.

"Hopefully, I will kick a few more yet this season.

"It was a strange game all round, we were built up for Salford to beat Celtic and it didn't happen.

"We had nothing to play for, everyone just wanted to stay injury free.

"That's probably a bad attitude, but that's the reality of it.

"Having said that, I think in patches we showed some good touches with the tries we scored.

"We will get some confidence from that."

Congratulations to the Courier’s photographer for managing to get a picture of Holroyd doing a tackle.
