Super League will gain a host of benefits from the decision of the governing body to move to a licensing system, according to specialist sports business group Deloitte.
Mark Roberts, senior manager at Deloitte, said: "There are some strong arguments to support such a move in rugby league.

"Improved financial stability, a more competitive league, increased revenues and investment and better wage control are expect
ed to be among the main benefits of the system.

"Three years will hopefully allow smaller clubs the chance to develop on the pitch and bring better competitive balance to the league as a whole.

"A newly-promoted club from the National League One would usually have to weigh up how much to invest in new playing staff when they are likely to be involved in a relegation battle.

"The absence of relegation means clubs can invest in the squad and player development with confidence, without needing instant results and aim to be more competitive in years two and three whilst continuing to invest in their youth team, stadia and so on."

Roberts, whose organisation have helped Leigh in their licence application, believes that all will not be lost for the five unsuccessful bidders.

They will be given guidelines on how to improve their business plan and have the chance to reapply for a Super League spot when the licence process is opened up again in three years' time.

"A clearly defined pathway to the Super League is vital," said Roberts.
"Clubs who are not successful in their application this time need specific objectives for them to improve."

This man has his head in the clouds. The only way that non Super League sides can improve is by forming a breakaway league away from the RFL. The gap between Super League and National League sides etc. Can only get wider. Deloitte are consultants and have been given a fee to come up with this brainless idea.
